Rep. Joe Knollenberg(R-MI): We Aren’t Using Taxpayer Money For Bailouts, Tinkerbell Sprinkled Pixie Dust

By: Pam On: Nov/19/08 - 11 Comments

That’s right, you tell them Knollenberg..Tell them how Tinkerbell flew in and sprinkled  pixie dust all over the treasury, and now, magically,  they have all kinds of money, and not a dime of it came from the taxpayer!

Watch as he tells Cavouto that it isn’t our money:

MM:

Attention, Republicans obsessed with “re-branding” the party and crafting appealing messages to win back voters. Here’s your textbook example of how not to act and what not to say if you want to restore credibility to conservatism

Zawahiri calls Obama a “house negro”

By: Pam On: Nov/19/08 - 3 Comments

Well that’s a fine how do you do!

Ace:

Maybe now the hard left will finally get really mad at al Qaeda. Sure, an attack that kills 3,000 people on American soil can be ascribed to a, “fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers”. But this? This is fighting words!

Ed:

Zawahiri channeled entertainer Harry Belafonte, who leveled the same slur against both Powell and Rice.  After Powell publicly rebuked Belafonte for the insult, Belafonte hardly appeared contrite over it.  In fact, he called Powell a “sell out”, using the same logic as Zawahiri uses here.

Average total compensation for a Big Three autoworker is $73.21 an hour Toyota, Honda and Nissan pay a still-generous $44.20 an hour in total compensation — a cost edge of nearly 40%

Quite a difference, wouldn’t you agree?

Credit this idea to Robert Reich, the former Clinton administration official. We’ve had lots of disagreements with Reich in the past, and no doubt will in the future. But on this he’s right: If a bailout is to be given, the Big Three and their unions must thoroughly revamp their businesses, almost as if it were a bankruptcy. Call it a Chapter 11 Bailout.

Above all, the companies’ poisonous contracts with the United Auto Workers union have to be torn up. The problem is that the UAW, under President Ron Gettelfinger, remains adamant: No givebacks. This is financial lunacy.

Obama’s Attorney General: Eric Holder…You may as well plan to scroll for updates…

By: Pam On: Nov/18/08 - 5 Comments

Shall I remind you of the Marc Rich pardon

President-elect Obama has decided to tap Eric Holder as his attorney general, putting the veteran Washington lawyer in place to become the first African-American to head the Justice Department, according to two legal sources close to the presidential transition.

Holder, who served as deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration, still has to undergo a formal “vetting” review by the Obama transition team before the selection is final and is publicly announced, said one of the sources, who asked not to be identified talking about the transition process. But in the discussions over the past few days, Obama offered Holder the job and he accepted, the source said…

Lieberman Keeps Seat And The Left Is Riled

McCain backer Lieberman keeps committee chair

Lieberman’s colleagues in the Democratic caucus voted 42-13 Tuesday to approve a resolution condemning statements made by Lieberman during the campaign but allowing him to keep the Homeland Security Committee gavel.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he had been very angry by Lieberman’s actions but that “we’re looking forward, we’re not looking back.”

Added Reid: “This was not a time for retribution, it was a time for moving forward on the problems of this country.”

It was a secret ballot, not like Card Check, so I can’t tell you who the 13 were that voted to oust him from his chairmanship  on the Homeland Security Committee.  Here are some of the better reactions:

Scroll For Updates: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

By: Pam On: Nov/17/08 - 6 Comments

Well, at least according to the Guardian

Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned…

Clinton would be well placed to become the country’s dominant voice in foreign affairs, replacing Condoleezza Rice. Since being elected senator for New York, she has specialised in foreign affairs and defence. Although she supported the war in Iraq, she and Obama basically agree on a withdrawal of American troops.

Clinton, who still harbours hopes of a future presidential run, had to weigh up whether she would be better placed by staying in the Senate, which offers a platform for life, or making the more uncertain career move to the secretary of state job.

“We are trying to reach our audience, and sometimes in order to reach an audience, everybody has to hear you,” said Fred Edwords, spokesman for the humanist group. “Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion.”…..

…Edwords said the purpose isn’t to argue that God doesn’t exist or change minds about a deity, although “we are trying to plant a seed of rational thought and critical thinking and questioning in people’s minds.”

Basically, Edwords is saying that those that do believe in God, are irrational and lack common sense.

Based on assurances that Obama would honor the agreement, Pact Signed For Full Troop Withdrawl By 2012..Obama To 60 Minutes: As soon as I take office, I will begin immediate withdrawl

By: Pam On: Nov/17/08 - 5 Comments

ThIs was Saturday:

Noting that Iraq had received assurances that President-elect Barack Obama would honor the agreement, al-Dabbagh said each side would have the right to repeal it after giving a year’s notice.

This was Sunday:

Obama - who yesterday stepped down from the Senate to prepare to take office on Jan. 20 - said he intends to “stick to [the] commitment” he made to begin removing US troops from Iraq.

“As soon as I take office, I will call in the Joint Chiefs of Staff, my national-security apparatus, and we will start executing a plan that draws down our troops,” Obama said.

Obama Chose Reagan’s Would-be Assassin’s Lawyer For White House Counsel

By: Pam On: Nov/17/08 - 48 Comments

Barack Obama has selected Gregory Craig as White House counsel, and he has quite the client list:

  • Elian Gonzalez’s father - Craig represented the father who demanded the return of his son after his estranged wife died trying to take Elian to freedom.  Most people saw this as a thinly-veiled publicity stunt from Fidel Castro, attempting to embarrass the US.  The dispute got resolved when Janet Reno ordered an armed assault on the house where Elian’s family in the US provided him a home.
  • John Hinckley, Jr - Craig presented and won the insanity defense that allows Ronald Reagan’s would-be assassin to spend weekends with his family now.

Scroll For Updates: United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger: Screw You If You Think Our Members Are Giving More Concessions…Umm “for approximately a lousy $7 billion”, We Could Buy All Three Companies

By: Pam On: Nov/16/08 - 15 Comments

That’s pretty much the message this is sending:

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Even as Detroit’s Big Three teeter on collapse, United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger said Saturday that workers will not make any more concessions and that getting the automakers back on their feet means figuring out a way to turn around the slumping economy.

“The focus has to be on the economy as a whole as opposed to a UAW contract,” Gettelfinger told reporters on a conference call, noting the labor costs now make up 8 percent to 10 percent of the cost of a vehicle.

“We have made dramatic, dramatic changes and the UAW was applauded for that,” he said.

Krugman: Raising Taxes Worsened Depression But Obama Should Do The Exact Same Thing

By: Pam On: Nov/16/08 - 1 Comment

Oy!

PAUL KRUGMAN, NEW YORK TIMES: What actually happened was, you know, there was an enor, there was a collapse in the financial system, which was not restored for a long time. There was a persistent deep slump in consumer demand, and therefore no investment demand and so you’re stuck in this trap. Roosevelt got the economy moving somewhat. By 1937 things were a lot better than they were in 1933…

GEORGE WILL: And then they tanked (?)…

KRUGMAN: …then he was persuaded to balance the budget, or try to, and he raised taxes and cut spending, and the economy went back down again, and it took an enormous public works program known as World War II to bring the economy out of a Depression………………

Global Warming/Climate Change Update

By: Robert On: Nov/16/08 - 8 Comments

I know this is going to offend some, but the truth is the truth: If you believe in human-caused Global Warming/Climate Change, you are a poor, deluded fool. You are a trendoid, swept up in the emotionally-appealing cause of Al Gore and his minions. You have willingly suspended disbelief and common sense.

Here is an article Pam found in the London Telegraph today that puts another nail, no a huge spike, in the coffin of the GW/CC FRAUD. This article is so good I thought it was useful to paste it here, to make it very convenient for GW/CC zealots to read. At this point, with the vast majority of qualified scientists saying human-caused GW/CC is nonsense, and the growing mountain of evidence of flawed computer models,  conflict of interest, and outright fraud by the GW/CC advocates, if you still believe in human-caused GW/CC then you are one or more of the following:
